An Unsolicited Proposal versus a Solicited Proposal

A proposal plays an integral role in a designer's attempt in attracting potential clients. A proposal takes several forms and two such forms include solicited and unsolicited proposal.
A solicited proposal also known as a Request for Proposal (RFP) is a proposal a client asks for. This type of proposal is a customized version of a design, colour etc. that a customer requested. In some cases, a designer may present to the client potential craft designs and the client then asks to see the layout of the proposed design in the solicited proposal. The customer may or may not ask for alternations or formatting based on their satisfaction of the proposal layout. It must be understood that the solicited proposal does not guarantee the clients acceptance and usage of it.
An unsolicited proposal is the type of proposal that is sent to a potential without prior knowledge of what is being proposed. With this type of proposal, the designer (s) run the risk of the proposal being ignored since the customer has not asked or budgeted for it. The designer has to ensure that the proposal is crafted expertly and written in a highly convincing manner.
Two other types of proposals are internal and external proposals. Internal proposal are proposals that are exchanged within a company that is, it offers to an individual in charge for example a Design Manager, a list of things an individual from the company wishes to propose to a potential customer. The internal proposal may also seek the permission of an authority (within the company) for the go ahead to contact a client or potential client. Unlike the internal proposal, the external proposal is one sent from one company to another. It may be an internal proposal that was accepted and approved.
