An Unsolicited Proposal versus a Solicited Proposal

A proposal plays an integral role in a designer's attempt in attracting potential clients. A proposal takes several forms and two such forms include solicited and unsolicited proposal.
A solicited proposal also known as a Request for Proposal (RFP) is a proposal a client asks for. This type of proposal is a customized version of a design, colour etc. that a customer requested. In some cases, a designer may present to the client potential craft designs and the client then asks to see the layout of the proposed design in the solicited proposal. The customer may or may not ask for alternations or formatting based on their satisfaction of the proposal layout. It must be understood that the solicited proposal does not guarantee the clients acceptance and usage of it.
An unsolicited proposal is the type of proposal that is sent to a potential without prior knowledge of what is being proposed. With this type of proposal, the designer (s) run the risk of the proposal being ignored since the customer has not asked or budgeted for it. The designer has to ensure that the proposal is crafted expertly and written in a highly convincing manner.
Two other types of proposals are internal and external proposals. Internal proposal are proposals that are exchanged within a company that is, it offers to an individual in charge for example a Design Manager, a list of things an individual from the company wishes to propose to a potential customer. The internal proposal may also seek the permission of an authority (within the company) for the go ahead to contact a client or potential client. Unlike the internal proposal, the external proposal is one sent from one company to another. It may be an internal proposal that was accepted and approved.

Plot
Rising Barbadian super model Nia Alleyne, has been given a chance to work in the fashion capital of Milan, Paris and New York. This 19year old model, who has been contracted with top model agency, Elite model management, has always dreamt of becoming an international model from a very young age. This might seem like a typical story of a young girl's dream, but what you are about to find out, will show you why Nia's story is worth hearing about. Born 17th June, 1991, she was diagnosed with Retinitis pigmentosa, a condition which will eventually make her go totally blind by the age of thirty. Over the years, Nia has accepted the fact that it will eventually reach that point and has decided to work harder, to achieve her goals before that time. In this interview, Nia speaks on the challenges she has faced and are facing and how she has and will continue to overcome them in order to pursue her dream job of a runway super model.

Script
Host: Today on the So can I! show, our featured guest is nineteen year old Barbadian supermodel,; Nia Alleyne from the Elite model management. Nia is a very special young lady, at a very young age, she was diagnosed with a rare disease, which will make her totally blind at the age of thirty, however this young lady has a determined spirit which has placed her where she is today, in the Elite model management, among supermodels such as Alex Grace, Alejandro Gonzalez, just to name a few. So Nia, it's nice to have you on the show.

Nia: It's nice to be here. (smiles)

Host: I'm glad to be in the presence of someone such as yourself, so first, I and I'm sure the many viewers would like you to tell us a little about yourself. How has being a supermodel for such a respected modelling agency been for you even with your disability?

Nia: It's been such a wonderful experience, starting out as an aspiring model is a challenge for anyone in the field, but doing it with a disability is even harder, because it involves doing a bit more than the others. But my goal is much stronger than my disadvantage, and that's why I'm still in the running.

Host: So what are some of the challenges that you do have, as a disabled model?

Nia: ummm, it would have to be walking the runway (laughs), I know that's probably every model's biggest fear and the most challenging, but for me, after getting over the nervousness, my problem was mainly because of my sight, and not being familiar with the many runways out there, so I had to do extra, like come the day before to feel out the place, so there wouldn't be any mess ups on that day.

Host: OK, I see, on television, it portrays models as being somewhat mean (says mean in quotations) to their counterparts, did this ever affect?

Nia: Of course(nods for inficise), I mean there were times, especially when I was starting up in the business, some were like, "checka d blind girl, where she think she going? bet she fall off stage, "(laughs). I mean, at that point I wasn't laughing, but I was smiling in my head, and that just drove me to prove them wrong and prove myself right; now I can laugh at it openly, but it did hurt me; that's life for you, I guess.

Host: (nods in agreement) Yes, you will always get that, old, young, disabled, not disabled, persons will always try to push you down. So moving on to your disease, can you talk to us about it, to help us to understand it better. I know the name is Retinis Pigmentoso, and it is a genetic disease, how have you dealt with this though you years?

Nia: It's been very tough, not going to lie, yes, it is genetic, my grandpa and my mum, have all had variations of it. So there was always a chance of me developing it, therefore pre cautions have always been taken to slow the process. I think what worried me the most, were the simple things, like seeing the sunset, reading, watching television, it was never really about what other persons would say, it was about what I couldn't do. Just like everything else in life, I took the positives from it, and learnt a new language,(laugh)....

Host: What was that?

Nia: Braille.(says it with a very serious tone)

Nia and Skyee have a moment of laughing hysterically.

Host: Nia I can see why you are so lovable, you have used your disability to your ability and you should be proud of that, you are definitely an inspiration for younger persons, both with and without disabilities, and you should continue to be that way. Anything you would like to say, before we end?

Nia: Well I would just like to say to the youth, continue to work at your dream, life will come with trials, but always remember you are not the only person going through that trial, be friends with persons who will motivate you to always look up, and in return motivate those around you, never be a follower, unless you are leading from behind.

Host: Thank you Nia for being here, it has been a pleasure talking to you. To all of you fashion fans out there, check out E! Entertainment TV, for Paris fashion week, where our Barbadian born, supermodel Nia Alleyne, will be performing, for Vera Wang's Summer collection 2011 at 8pm on Wednesday night.

Nia once again, thank you.

Nia: Yea, no prob.

Host: And all the best in all of your future . This is Skyee hosting, So can I!, thanks for watching and have an amazing day. Bye!

This fall solids are in! that’s right, color blocking is back and taking Europe and the US by storm. Designers are mixing the eras, and living a little on the edge if I should say so myself.

In a combination of old and new, we are seeing the 60’s and 80’s making a huge comeback. The mod look, which was inspired but super model of that era Twiggy Lawson, is once again walking the runways at New York and Paris fashion week.

It’s the must have styles of Fall 2011 as color blocked, peter pan collared outfits and pea coats can be seen in every major fashion outlets.

For this weds , If your script needs green screen , have it ready to be video-taped . Additionally
I would like to demonstrate some basic editing techniques , you can acquaint yourself with the following videos.

Blog #1

Wednesday was a very informative and interest class, i got the basic knowledge or idea on a video camera and what the whole video production entails.i learnt a variety of things; such as:
  • the different areas on the camera.
  • how to prepare for a shoot .
  • how to shoot and gather footage.
I also found out about white balance, shutter speed on a video camera; the difference between the shutter speed on the camera and on a video camera, we also got introduced to a tripod once more; and how it is used; the reasons a producer uses a tripod. The hands on experience allowed me to understand what i can and cannot do and where the improvements are needed, this was the best part. Overall the class really was an eye opener and anyone that missed it missed a lot.
